THE BLOCK IS HOT "HEAT ISLAND EDITION"
The Block is Hot project is an initiative formed to combat heat islands in District -E, more specifically, the Little Woods neighborhood. This project is targeted towards youth environmental workforce development. The 3rd Line NOLA has partnered with Illuminating the Youth to expand our reach, effort, and impact in the district.
WHO ARE WE
The 3rd Line NOLA is a nonprofit consulting firm established in May 2024 in District E - New Orleans East. It aims to address inequities in disadvantaged communities by focusing on voter education and engagement, innovative workforce development, economic growth, community building, climate initiatives, and educational opportunities, all grounded in the cultural framework of New Orleans' 2nd Line tradition.
This approach draws from the sacred cultural practices of Afro-Creole traditions in New Orleans, defined by two key groups: the band that leads and mourns with the family, and the 2nd line that unites the community in celebrating life and offering comfort.
The 3rd Line NOLA introduces a new dimension to the New Orleans cultural framework by adding "restoration" of resources to affected families, focusing on restoring community sustainability.
